This is the Wolfpaw Weekly. Don’t remember signing up or don’t want this anymore? It’s easy to unsubscribe.

Yet another eventful week at Casa Wolf. I have been trying to devote time specifically to creative pursuits such as the newsletter, but it has been challenging. Who was supposed to tell me that cancelled social obligations didn’t suddenly free me up to become my best self?

While I sort this out, read and watch a few things with me. If there’s anything that you loved or think that I should see, email back to let me know

Jay Hoffman, from thehistoryoftheweb.com has been doing an amazing job for years of chronicling exactly what the site says. But even more than that, as he delves into some of the events that happened to make the world wide web possible. His series on CSS-Tricks is an ongoing collection of longform articles starting with the birth of the web, onto browsers, and at latest the website itself.

A clean start for the web – Tom MacWright

Speaking of the web, what could it look like in the future? Tom MacWright argues that we should strongly consider creating something wholly new to leave behind some of the issues of the past in order to move forward. I don’t know if such a drastic change will work, but it’s not like the web was a certainty itself.

Civility As Social Means Testing – hyenablood, Medium (no ad-wall)

Not a new post, but one with renewed interest after some trouble in one of the most active Mastodon instances. When you’re arguing civility as more important than protecting marginalized people, you are probably acting in bad faith.

Oh hey, speaking of Mastodon, I’m working on improving my guide over the coming weeks to add much more info. You can always find me @david@tech.lgbt

Amazon Is Hiring an Intelligence Analyst to Track ‘Labor Organizing Threats’ – Lorenzo Franceschi-Bicchierai, Motherboard

Is this really a surprise? The only thing that shocks me here is how blatant Amazon is being in posting these job listings publicly. Of course they want to stop unionizing, because it would make Bezos the richest man on Earth still, but not by tens of billions more than his next competition.

See more about companies trying to destroy their own employees to save their money in “When Elon Musk Tried to Destroy a Tesla Whistleblower“.

Don’t forget this Labor Day weekend that it was meant to commemorate deadly riots for worker’s rights

Kelly “Masks”

I was in college when “Shoes” came out, which was basically my song of the summer. I remember cracking up with friends as we tried to load the video on this brand new music site, YouTube, over a slow connection. The updated version brings us to how Kelly and her parents have changed, and I love it.

Hatshepsut: The Forgotten Pharaoh • Puppet History

I love this show. Watcher has brought a sense of whimsy to the edutainment game show format, and I’ve learned something from each of the episodes while being entertained by The Professor.

Christopher Nolan vs. Interstellar — The Nolan Crosscut

I liked Interstellar, but I never really understood why parts of it felt confusingly disjointed. No, not the fifth-dimension portions, but the relative boredom of life on earth, spanning a lifetime and more for those confined to the rock compared to the short time in space for the leads.

The Late Philip J. Fry: Futurama’s Final Masterpiece

I wouldn’t call this episode the final masterpiece, since the series finale definitely holds up. Still, it got me thinking about Futurama again, and watching this along with a few of my other favorite episodes.

What’s your favorite Futurama episode? Bonus points for it not being “Jurassic Bark”, which gets 90% of it’s ranking from the last minute of an otherwise normal episode.

We’ve made it to the end of the week. Rest up and renew the fight on Labor Day ✊🏽
