A lot of companies have been doing their years in review. Tumblr did theirs a few weeks ago, and Reddit followed suit. YouTube decided not to do their annual recap, which is probably for the best.
I did a post on my site about some of my favorite things of 2019, which was amazingly only three posts ago. Maybe next year I’ll blog more (he lied to himself in advance).
I’ll probably put together a favorites of 2020 post on some downtime that I’m taking from work. It’s certainly going to be interesting to review things that I consumed this year that are actually new.
I’m probably going to prepare a newsletter in advance to come out next Friday, but we will be spending time with the people closest to us, hopefully offline a bit. I’m not going to hold myself to it though, because it’s time for all of us to be easy on ourselves. If I don’t, see you next time!

My friend Bucky wrote a book for NaNoWriMo last month, and I’m so proud of them! They gave me this to get you interested in checking it out: “If you enjoy silly mystery and furry dads you might enjoy this!”
The book follows a mystery novel format, is kinda furry, and is all around fun. I’ve provided some feedback, and they are looking for more. They have epub and pdf formats of the book in a Google Drive folder for you to download from.

I mean basically it’s the fact that Reddit took care of the problem sooner, unlike the platforms that acted like they were not arbiters of what their users do until it was far too late.

Last week I was complaining about some business practices of Facebook in person, and had plenty of examples to choose from. An hour later this announcement was made, along with a similar announcement about Facebook-owned Oculus (which I dislike even more somehow) in Germany.
How do you pass bills that have failed several times in the past and are generally disliked? Add them to “must-pass” omnibus spending bills, just like dad did.
The senator who put forth these bills has been the biggest beneficiary of telecom company lobbyists this year, and the bills cover changes to copyright claims which could benefit copyright trolls most of all, an extra-judicial office to handle small claims, and change the classification of some streaming charges from misdemeanors to felonies with minimum prison terms.
So those DMCA notices that have shaken up Twitch in the past few months? That would be a much bigger issue for platforms and users to manage.

I dunno what it is, but the chemistry between Ryan Bergara and Shane Madej is enough for me to watch most of their mystery videos. This week we’ve been bingeing some old Unsolved marathons. This week’s been Season Five, Season Two, and Season Three in that order.
I don’t know what it is about this, but it’s so artificial looking I can’t help but laugh 😂

I have made an argument like this, but not nearly as catchy, for years. There is literally no way for Jeff Bezos to earn all of the money that he has. There is no possible way that he has actually worked that much harder than any of his employees or anyone else.

I’m not ace (asexual for those in the know), but this interview sounded like a good overview of ace folks and their place in the queer umbrella.
4chan: The Birthplace of All Memes – 2 Girls 1 Podcast
This episode apparently infuriated more listeners than just myself. I love the show and hosts, and I appreciate that they pushed back on their guest. But this person was either not the person to give an honest overview of 4chan, or the perfect person to show how full of shit they all are.
