Last week I skipped the newsletter because I was rather sick. Don’t worry, it wasn’t Covid-19, and I got the better end of the stick considering that I was helping to care for my sister who had bronchitis and pneumonia. I’ve also been having the fun of dealing with canceled events. Which is a wise thing to do, but still causing a bit of anxiety.
Anyway, share in a few of the things that I read and watched this week, and stay safe 💝

In late 2018 The Verge did a series of science fiction written and animated short stories called Better Worlds. I only found it two weeks ago, and have since read and watched all of the stories.
The series was focused on stories of hope in a futuristic environment, as opposed to dystopias. I enjoyed all of the stories to varying degrees, but these are the ones that I’d suggest most are Online Reunion, Monsters Come Howling in Their Season, A Model Dog, and St. Juju.

How to Work From Home Without Losing Your Mind by Brian Barrett – I’ve been working from home for the majority of my career. I’d second most of what Brian says here, as well as say that when you can, get the heck out of the house for a bit! Even if you are not overly social like me!

He gives some ideas for how to do this, and the final one might be the most important for us: be active bystanders and speak up for others when you see problematic behavior.
Popular VPN And Ad-Blocking Apps Are Secretly Harvesting User Data by Craig Silverman – Sensor Tower is an analytics platform for developers of mobile apps. They also own Turns out when you own the apps that keep track of user data, you are able to abuse user data. Craig Silverman also wrote an article with tips on danger signs to look out for when downloading mobile apps.

I’m building a BETTER Youtube. – I love MatPat and Game/Film Theorists. I really hope that a plan for building something for creators works out, and I trust him to be able to deliver.
