This is the Wolfpaw Weekly (name still in progress ๐Ÿ˜…). Don’t remember signing up or don’t want this anymore? It’s easy to unsubscribe.

I’m doing a 366 Day Challenge, and am 45 days in. You can follow along on my PixelFed account.

This week I attended a web development event called Flashback Conference. The event was focused on the past, present, and future of web development. There were so many great talks! I did a recap of the Flashback Conference on my blog.

Here’s a selection of things that I’ve watched and read this week:

๐ŸŽฅ

Why do we say Hip Hop and not Hop Hip? This video by Knox Study on TikTok (decidedly not TokTik) talks about repeated sounds following specific orders and why.

“Weird Al” Yankovic – Amish Paradise (Live at Red Rocks) – Thanks to Lisa I’ve seen Weird Al live three times. I would go again.

Burn to ash / lofi hip hop mix – I spend a lot of my work time listening to ChillHop and lofi mixes, because I am a basic b. But seriously, they are hypnotic and good.

BoJack Horseman – Judah Sings For Princess Carolyn – BoJack Horseman just ended with six great seasons of some of the best television that I’ve ever seen. This was a nice little scene that gave more depth to one of my favorite characters. The cast also spoke about their experience making the show.

Curtis McHale – How I Take Notes When I Read Books – I wish I were so organized in like… anything that I do. Curtis does a lot of great work writing about managing your business and clients, as well as how he works from an iPad, something that I wish I were more comfortable doing.

How to try out the fediverse and actually keep using it by dysphoric.dev – I read this article by someone that I follow on Mastodon, and got their permission to use some info to update my Getting Started on Mastodon post. Eventually this should be a full guide!

How The Sims navigated 20 years of change to become one of the most successful franchises ever by Elise Favis – This month Sims 4 is free on PS Plus! Also, the game has meant so much to so many people, more than a game normally is. When you give people the tools to do whatever they want, you get people doing all sorts of personal, beautiful things.

Teens have figured out how to mess with Instagram’s tracking algorithm by Alfred Ng – The fact that teenagers recognize that recommendations on social media are a form of tracking, and that they are against it is cool. The fact that teenagers have found hacks to allow them to share accounts and confuse trackers is even cooler.

The Other as Noise by Silvio Lorusso – I’m pretty sure that I have low-level misophonia. There are a few sounds (that I’m not going to tell you, tyvm) that cause me so much more stress than other sounds. I hope that tech doesn’t drive it, but I would not at all be surprised.

That’s it for this week. Enjoy your weekend, and share any good finds of your own with me!
