being sick and tired doesn’t stop capitalism

It’s really easy to focus so much on the planning of things that you lose sight on actually doing those things. This is something that happens to me way too frequently!

I have paper lists, digital lists, Trello boards, Notion pages, Todoist projects, and more all with the goal of organizing bits of my life. It absolutely helps, and I’m not knocking them. But it doesn’t take the place of actually ~doing the work~.

I’ve been in this position a lot more lately, especially with some of the health issues that I’ve been having causing more stress and fatigue. I’m definitely taking it easy, and giving myself a break. Now I’m reaching that stress point of knowing that I need to make some changes.

Not much in the way of content this week, I know. But I imagine that my situation is not unfamiliar to a lot of you.

What do you do to keep yourself from stressing over lost time while taking a break? Do you have any tips or techniques on granting yourself the same patience that we so easily grant to others?

Google “We Have No Moat, And Neither Does OpenAI” – Dylan Patel, SemiAnalysis

If this is an accurate assessment (and it feels like it would be to me), it signals that generative AI is no longer the domain of large companies and will be reshaping a lot of how we use technology, as well as how they approach and monetize it.

Please Eat in the Library – Mackenzie Filson, Taste Cooking

One of the few downsides of hosting events at our library is that you can’t bring food and drink in. Very understandable in the book and technology sections, but I’d love something more rounded and engaging for the community like these libraries have.

German EMS uses QR technology to discourage illegal photography at emergency scenes – Laura French

I did not know that it was illegal to photograph at emergency scenes in Germany, but this is… maybe a way to remind people?

Racial identity, Fluidity, & Being Biracial in White Skin | Salari

I can relate to this video. It is very uncomfortable to be in a situation where you view yourself as one way, and are forcefully reminded that some people view you a very different way.

Schools Are Suing Social Media Over Kids’ Mental Health. Can They Win? (w/ Samantha Murphy Kelly, CNN) – 2 Girls 1 Podcast

Even if they don’t win, this will probably help with the push for regulation over social media and technology companies. Maybe we can get some data privacy laws in the US, as a treat?

Remembering Judith Heumann and the Extraordinary History of the Disability Rights Movement – Factually! with Adam Conover

Re-airs can be good, since conversations can sound fresh, like this one does four years after originally airing.
