A quiet week and a long weekend

It’s been a fairly quiet week here for me. I don’t have a long rant to go on like last week πŸ˜‚

I’m not sure that I ever linked it here, but I finally built a first draft of a plugin to convert MailPoet newsletters to WordPress blocks. The goal was to be able to drop all of the database tables that I was no longer using from my site, while getting my old newsletter archives to match the new style that I’ve been using for the past year and a half. If you happen to use MailPoet, I’d love some help to test this!

I’ve been taking a drawing class in person recently, and I’ve been enjoying the investment of time, energy, and money into myself. It’s forcing me to do something that I keep saying that I want to practice.

Now it’s time to take the dogs to the park. Our puppy has far too much energy and is driving our older dog crazy. She is adorable though!

She knows what she’s doing with that cocked ear and expression

Post-Pandemic Mystery at Heathrow – Fear of Landing

I find it very interesting to think about how the change in environment and technology leads to unanticipated third order events, like a pandemic leading to lower air travel leading to higher ground-level ozone leading to nesting bees in plane sensors πŸ˜…

Where Do Memes Come From? The Top Platforms From 2010-2022 – Aidan Walker, Know Your Meme

Know Your Meme took data that they’ve collected over the past 12 years to see what sites and apps popular memes were first being transmitted from.

Clocking In at the VR Kmart – Megan Farokhmanesh, Wired

This kind of roleplay can seem weird, since you aren’t slaying dragons or fighting bosses (not even your Kmart manager!) But who says that all roleplay has to be so intense and adversarial?

Now everyone can use Twitter Circle to keep certain posts private – Emma Roth, The Verge

I’ve always wanted Circles to catch on with some platform tbh. I guess the network effect of something active like Twitter could help. May as well find a safe space to share before the edit button comes for us all.

tweet from @NireBryce that reads, "Hey, welcome to the polycule. Here's your infopacket, and we'll need to get you set up with our SSO so you can log into our Plex, Pi Hole, Disney +, Amazon Prime, Crunchyroll, NAS, Teamspeak, Trello JIRA, Gitlab, build system, and development VMs"

One Inc Vs. The FBI (This is Who We Are #1)

I wasn’t aware of this story, but I like any story of gays fighting The Man and winning, however small those victories.

Combining Disney Heroes with Their Villains

I really like the creativity that the Drawfee folks have when it comes to taking things that they like and mixing them up. Plus Mowgli/Shere Khan is so cute!

Is Productivity Killing Us?

I dislike how much I agree with what the host was saying, with how much I still do the things that he described in a negative manner πŸ˜…

Fixing My Brain with Automated Therapy

A longer than average video from Jacob Geller. I almost thought that the video wasn’t going to touch on games at all, but he mentioned a few that I’d like to check out. Plus, I got a little review on a variety of apps that I could conceivably try to fix my brain a bit.

tweet from @Iron_Spike that reads, "It's wild how quickly everyone seems to have forgotten that the downswing in pirating media was initiated by making that media easily accessible."

Roadkill Ghost Choir – Vision On Vision / Undo (Live on KEXP)

An old song that I was vibing to again this week and I found a live version that I enjoyed

This VR Kmart Is Like Time Traveling to 1992 – 2 Girls 1 Podcast

The producer for this show said that the interviewee thanked them and Wired for being the only outlets bothering to talk to them directly when discussing the group and how they function. It’s almost like doing journalism or something πŸ˜…

SCHNUFFEL BUNNY – HAB DICH GERN (β™₯ GOJII β™₯ EDIT)

GOJII is on tour right now but still putting out new tracks and remixes

Ai Generated Music Video – Deltron 3030 – Virus

There’s a few videos like this on the channel. I like how the trippy aesthetic of the AI generated images looks for the sci-fi themes of the tracks chosen.

If you made it this far, why not share this newsletter with a friend? Or share with me some of the things that you found that you liked this week. Either way, I’m thrilled!
