Take some time to do something kind for yourself this weekend

This is the Wolfpaw Weekly. Don’t remember signing up or don’t want this anymore? It’s easy to unsubscribe.

I’m doing a 366 Day Challenge, and am 170 days in! You can follow along on my PixelFed account.

In personal news, Wednesday was my anniversary with Tim! I’m writing this newsletter early so that we could take a few days off from internet work. I’m looking forward to a bit of time to read and watch random junk without caring about the time.

Oh also I’m angry at my ISP, but I can’t really do much without giving up cable based internet entirely, since collusion is a thing they do in all ways but the FCC naming it that.

So without further ado, this week’s reading, and watching suggestions.

One of my friends, Soatok the Dhole, has been publishing a lot more on his blog lately. He wrote a post earlier this week called The World Needs More Furry Bloggers. I asked him on Twitter what he defined as a furry blogger, and the answer was simple:

Published under the name and image of one’s fursona, while acknowledging themselves as a member of the community.

That’s it. A very low bar to clear. ^^

If you’ve followed me for more than a few minutes, you could probably guess that I’m low-key furry. I’ve been around that fandom for a good portion of my life, but admittedly not vocally. I’ve been thinking about what I might do to my blog though to fit his definition. Stay tuned?

Actually, more important, check out this great nine-part guide that he wrote on how to get started building a career in tech called Furward Momentum. I really appreciate that he puts so much focus on building communities and giving back to others to help learn and raise your profile.

Retro Hackers Are Building a Better Nintendo Game Boy – Brendan Nystedt, Wired

I know some people who hack together new things with Game Boys, mainly for chiptune creation. This article made me want to order some custom Game Boy parts to mess around with.

What Happened to the Webmaster – Jay Hoffmann, The History of the Web

I saw Jay give this presentation at Flashback Conference back in January, when I didn’t think twice about sitting in a room all day with a bunch of other people. It was a great presentation, and the write-up is a good translation!

A Heritage of Evil – Michael Gorra, The New York Review of Books

It is really bizarre how many people venerate confederate icons considering how short lived that country was. A meme that I’ve seen going around has been about how many things have lasted longer than the confederacy. At less than five years, that’s pretty much everything of actual consequence.

Wolves are just cute and cuddly doggos. Especially baby wolves.

With you, Spot can

This is a joke, right? I mean, I know that Boston Robotics is going to be selling their robots at something like $75k each, but this just looks like a parody of the terrifying future that Black Mirror scared us with.

If Google Was a Guy: Quarantine Edition (Part 2)

I enjoy this series, and hope that they do more animated versions in the future. Here’s part one if you missed it.

Stay safe. We will win together πŸ’
