Howdy yall,

This is the Wolfpaw Weekly. Don't remember signing up or don't want this anymore? It's easy to unsubscribe.

I'm doing a 366 Day Challenge, and am 226 days in! You can follow along on my PixelFed account.
I've missed doing this newsletter the past two weeks. Besides general life busyness, I decided to hurt myself in a few places, and got sick as well. Thankfully testing for covid-19 came back negative, but I still took it easy for a bit.

I usually like to think of this newsletter as a way to reflect on my week a bit, prepare for the weekend, and share the things that I like. I love getting suggestions on things to check out. If you have any good books, comics, blogs, cartoons, podcasts, or music that you think that I should know about, respond to this email!

Should Disney World even be open? - Carlye Wysel, Vox
If you know me, you probably know that I detest most things Disney, especially how rabid their apologists are. Shoutout to saying that Florida had the pandemic "under control", while also reporting the highest daily new case number in the country on the same day that they reopened.

Oh, and if you're going to comment that the number didn't come from Disney, a reminder that the number of new cases has continued to rise since. I don't care about how much you like Disney. Wear your damn masks and stay home.

How the Pandemic Defeated America - Ed Yong, The Atlantic
Absolutely brutal. This pandemic has shown how ill prepared we were, often on purpose. It's truly a disgrace to call ourselves the greatest nation while failing so incompetently. If you read just one thing that I posted this week, make it this article.

The Quest to Liberate $300,000 of Bitcoin From an Old Zip File - Lily Hay Newman, Wired
This would be a nightmare if it happened to me, especially as prices were falling. Still, some useful info came out of this for researches, including the fact that zip security isn't that great.

I Tried to Live Without the Tech Giants. It Was Impossible. - Kashmir Hill, NYT
I feel like I've been having this conversation a lot lately. It's nice to tell people that they need to cut off big tech, but it can be impossible to do so and still participate in society these days. Not that we shouldn't strive for better, but none of us is perfect while still being not insufferable.

Want to brighten your day with a raccoon that has learned to paint and seems thrilled? I saw this on Ryan Broderick's Garbage Day newsletter, where he said investigation suggested that the raccoon is happy and healthy as a rescue.

This has excellent meme potential. Enjoy these redos by my friend John.

I'm not much into horror movies. Not because they are scary: it was one of my favorite genres of movie as a kid and that definitely had zero impact on my life 😅

No, it's that most of them seem contrived to me, or meant more for shock value than anything else. Still, I enjoy a good spooky story now and then, and these animated shorts hit the spot this week. Learn why you shouldn't let them in, why not to stop for gas at night, and why to avoid the graveyard shift at Dunkin Donuts. Make sure to watch these at night!

The Seven People Who Can Turn Off the Internet - Half as Interesting
Did you know about the seven keys to the internet, and what they mean? If the above video interests you, there's a great podcast that came out a few years ago with a fictionalized take on how this could go wrong. It's called Big Data, and it's got a stellar cast, and each episode has a different style.

history of the entire world, i guess - bill wurtz
No, this is not a new video at all, but this was referenced around me so many times this week that I had to rewatch it and share.

Honest Trailers | Avatar: The Last Airbender
I don't need to argue about who the best avatar is. With Legend of Korra on Netflix today, even more people will learn that she is the One True Avatar.
Another week ends. Find your solace in the weekend. 💝
